Welcome to Walnut Garden! We're thrilled to have you here and would love to share some information about our establishment.

What is Walnut Garden?

Walnut Garden is a delightful pop-up restaurant and cocktail garden that has been inspired by the charm of Rittenhouse Square, one of the finest public spaces in the country, and the surrounding neighborhood. Our goal is to become an integral part of the community, where people can come together, socialize, and enjoy one another's company.

We boast two full-service bars—the Garden Bar and the Tent Bar—as well as a dedicated Draft Trailer that serves a selection of draft beer, wine, and cocktails. Who owns Walnut Garden?

Walnut Garden is owned and operated by FCM Hospitality, under the leadership of Avram Hornik. FCM Hospitality also owns other popular Philadelphia locations such as Morgan's Pier, Liberty Point, Garden at Cherry Street Pier, Parks on Tap, Crafthall, Harper's Garden, Juno, Rosy's Taco Bar, Lola's Garden, Dolphin Tavern, and Concourse Dance Bar.

Who designed the garden?

The creative mind behind Walnut Garden's design is Avram himself, while the master gardener Lorraine Serafini handled the planting arrangements.

What is the design concept?

The vision behind this venue blends sustainability with aesthetics, showcasing the beauty of salvaged and reclaimed materials. As you wander through the garden, you'll notice the intricate details that tell a story of environmental consciousness and design ingenuity. From weathered wooden beams repurposed as pathways to vintage iron gates adorning the entrance, to the preserved graffiti on the walls. The creative minds behind Walnut Garden have artfully incorporated salvaged materials, giving new life to forgotten treasures and adding a touch of rustic elegance to this urban haven. It's a true testament to the power of sustainable design, where beauty and sustainability intertwine.

What was on the lot previously?

Three years ago, during the civil unrest following protests against the murder of George Floyd, the three buildings on this lot—Mcdonald's, Van's shoe store, and Jacques Ferber—were tragically burned down. Since then, the lot remained vacant until it was purchased by Brookvil, a Brooklyn-based developer.

How long did it take to build Walnut Garden?

Remarkably, it only took 35 days to transform the vacant lot into the captivating space you see today. During the construction process, 60 truck loads of fill were brought in to level the lot and prepare it for its current state.

When did Walnut Garden open?

We opened our doors on Wednesday, May 31st, 2023, and we're thrilled to have been serving the community ever since.

When will Walnut Garden close for the season?

Unless we decide to host a Christmas tree sale and village, we plan to close for the season on Halloween (October 31st, 2024). If the holiday festivities are in the works, we'll remain open until New Year's Eve.
